FTC went after several websites that were promising a variety of cancer cures. Eleven companies were targeted by the Federal Trade Commission. Most used words like "cancer cure" and "cancer miracle" to attract web traffic and then sponsored links would lead the people to a sales site with supposed cures.
Actually there were over 100 sites claiming phony cancer cures and about a third closed down after receiving warning notices from the FTC. Sites reaching settlements with the FTC and promising not to make unsubstantiated claims include:
Ni-Gen Nutrition of Troy
Westberry Enterprizes of Pineville, La
Jim Clark's All Natural Cancer Therapy of Lousiville
Companies being sued by the FTC include:
Omega Supply of San Diego
Herbs for Cancer
The FTC also launched a website about bogus cancer claims: www.ftc.gov/curious
